The Power of Sensational Words

After almost two years of going back and forth with US Patent & Trademark Office I recently obtained a registration for a client’s trademark.  Upon notifying the client, his response was “sensational.” Reading that word put a huge smile on my face.  I have received joyful responses to good news in the past but something about the word “sensational” and the way the client wrote it excited me and me feel so good about this and other work I have done with him and on his behalf and the asset I added to his business.  I have read and listened to Zig Ziglar discuss the Power of the Word and I thought I understood it, but yesterday upon reading that word “sensational,” I not only understood what Zig meant by the power of the word, but felt it.
Here is a quick to the point post by Zig Ziglar on the Power of the Word: http://www.ziglar.com/newsletter/may-24-2011-edition-21
Your words can bind YOU both legally and mentally, but as Zig points out they can also bind others. As in contracts, in life you must be wise with the words you choose.  Think about what you say to your employees, clients, vendors, customers, family, and friends. Our ability to communicate as humans is special, we are the only animals that can use the power of the word.
As an attorney, a large part of my job is to deal in words: drafting and reviewing contracts, interpreting the laws, speaking with and counseling clients, etc. To that end, I cannot overemphasize the importance of reading ALL contracts ALL the way through, up to and including, sections that you might assume to have the same inclusions and stipulations standard to all contracts.
If you don’t have time to review your contracts or would rather a professional in this field handle it for you, contact us to discuss the details first. It is in the best interest of you and your business.
